WoW Forever Gold Making Guide: Legit Ways to Earn Gold at Launch

Beta caveat: Forever launches 5 November 2026; all of this comes from beta builds (latest notes 15 October). [Classic-based] = Classic Era data Forever may change; [Unconfirmed] = still to check at launch.

Ground rules

Blizzard banned GDKP for Forever and in beta put Economy Holds (limited trade, mail, auctions) on accounts suspected of buying or selling gold. Everything here is normal play: no gold buying, bots or exploits.

Best gold earners (launch expectations)

  1. Raw gathering materials. Levelling crafters and Waylaid Crates (20 leather or 40 cloth each) both need them.
  2. Pristine Leather. 126 recipes; as far as known only from level 11–21 beasts (Wowhead lists 22, e.g. Westfall, the Barrens, Darkshore, Loch Modan), so low-level skinners control supply. A Tanning Rack doesn't make it.
  3. Tanning Racks. Racks are used up after 15 minutes, so leatherworkers without the blueprint may buy them.
  4. Consumables and armour kits for dungeon and raid preparation.
  5. Class income such as rogue Pick Pocket and lockboxes.

Merchant's Favor as a gold saver

Favor buys plans, blueprints, titles, the Pack Kodo (6,000) and Certifications (1,000 each) that would otherwise cost gold. Crates pay 5/10 (Apprentice common/uncommon) and 10/20 (Journeyman); Performance Bonus gives a 5/10/15% double-Favor chance. The trade-off: every crated stack is one you don't sell, and Favor doesn't convert to gold, so spend it on things you want, not as income. See Merchant's Favor.

Tanning Rack and Spinning Wheel blueprints

Happy Camper sells both for 15 silver just outside Ironforge (Dun Morogh 51.6, 40.0); Horde can buy too, near Ironforge's guards. Rare drops: Razorclaw the Butcher, Shadowfang Keep (Tanning Rack), Unstable Sentinel (Spinning Wheel). 140 skill to learn and place; blueprints and objects are tradeable.

ObjectMaterialsEnables
Tanning Rack5 Medium Leather, 3 Fine Thread, 2 Simple Wood48 Leatherworking recipes
Spinning Wheel5 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 3 Fine Thread, 2 Simple Wood74 Tailoring recipes

Placed objects last 15 minutes, share a one-hour cooldown and need a campfire. Station recipes start at 125 but placing needs 140, so craft beside another player's station in between. They steadily consume Medium Leather, silk bolts and Simple Wood. Beta prices won't carry over, so we quote none.

Auction house costs to plan for

[Classic-based]: Classic kept 5% of each sale and your deposit if unsold; Forever's fees aren't published. Price above vendor value or vendor it. See the auction house page.

FAQ

What is the best gold profession at launch?

No sourced answer yet; gathering materials and Pristine Leather are the most clearly in demand from recipe counts.

Where do I get the Tanning Rack blueprint?

Happy Camper outside Ironforge sells it for 15 silver. It also drops rarely from Razorclaw the Butcher in Shadowfang Keep.
