Which addons work on WoW Forever?

Short answer: most popular addons do, but you need the file marked Forever. Forever runs on the modern client, so Classic Era files won't load.

Addons must cost nothing, have no premium tier and use readable code. The same combat limits as the modern game apply. Blizzard hadn't published a policy just for Forever when we checked.

Install Forever through Battle.net first.
In CurseForge, choose the Forever game version (game version 1.60.1 during the beta).
Not listed? Use Scan for games, then Manually add a game and pick the Forever folder.
Install the addon (e.g. Questie), then restart the game fully.

Wago also lists a Forever flavour (patch 1.60.1 in the beta). Choose Forever as the game version, point the app at the Forever folder, and install from there. Blizzard doesn't endorse or support any addon manager.

Close the game and download the Forever file.
Unzip it and copy each folder into Interface\AddOns.

At character select, click AddOns and tick each one (the list is per character).

💾 WoW Forever addons not saving settings

Addon settings live in WTF\Account\<ACCOUNT>\SavedVariables (per account) and WTF\Account\<ACCOUNT>\<realm>\<character>\SavedVariables (per character) inside the Forever folder. That's the same layout as Classic. They're written when you log out or /reload.

💥 Crash or force-quit	`/reload` or log out normally before closing
📁 Wrong install	Check the Forever folder's `WTF`, not Retail or Classic
🔒 Read-only files	Clear read-only on `WTF`, or Repair folder permissions
🔄 Messy update	Delete only the addon folder. Never delete `WTF`
🧩 Addon conflict	Disable all, then re-enable one at a time
🐛 Beta bug	Settings saved but didn't load at startup. Players reported it fixed after the 22 Sep 2026 reset (Blizzard forums)

Do addons work on WoW Forever?

Yes. Addons are allowed, but you need a version made for Forever. Forever runs on the modern game client, so an addon built for Classic Era won't load unless it has been updated.

Where is the WoW Forever addons folder?

In the Interface\AddOns folder inside the Forever client's own folder. Open it from Battle.net: select Forever, click the cog next to Play and choose Show in Explorer (Show in Finder on Mac). During the beta the folder was _classic_beta_. The folder name for launch hadn't been confirmed when we checked.

Why is my addon marked out of date?

Its .toc file doesn't list Forever's interface version (16001 during the beta). Wait for the author to release a Forever file. Ticking Load out of date AddOns doesn't make old code work.

Why won't my addon settings save?

Settings save to the WTF folder when you /reload or log out normally. If the game crashes or you force-quit, changes are lost. Also check that the files in WTF aren't read-only and that you edited the Forever install, not Retail or Classic.

How do I install addons in WoW Forever?

Pick the Forever game version in CurseForge or Wago and click Install, or unzip the Forever file into Interface\AddOns inside the Forever client folder. Then restart the game and tick the addon in the AddOns list at character select.

Where is the WoW Forever addons folder on Mac?

During the beta it was /Applications/World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns. The folder name for launch hasn't been confirmed, so open it from Battle.net with the cog > Show in Finder.

Why are my WoW Forever addon settings not saving?

Settings save to WTF\Account\<account>\SavedVariables when you log out or /reload. A crash, a read-only WTF folder or the wrong client folder stops that. A beta bug that stopped saved settings loading was reported fixed on 22 Sep 2026.
