Five rogue “facts” that are no longer true in Forever

  • Sap breaks Stealth: not any more. You stay stealthed after a Sap, though you still need Stealth to cast it Blizzard.
  • Sword Specialization: gone, along with Dagger, Mace and Fist Specialization. One talent, Hack and Slash, now gives a weapon-dependent bonus: extra attacks for swords and axes, crit for daggers and fists, armour penetration for maces Client data.
  • Combo points vanish when you switch target: in beta, they stayed on the old target until you built points on a new one Client dataUnverified.
  • Energy ticks every 2 seconds: Energy now refills smoothly, at about 10 per second Client dataUnverified.
  • Human racials need a sword: no Forever racial is tied to a weapon. Humans have Ruthless, which is +1% crit since 26 Oct Blizzard.

Talent preview: the levelling build, levels 10–29

In Forever, talents start at level 10, each row opens after 5 more points in its tree, and milestone talents sit at 11, 16, 21 and 31 points Blizzard. That puts Flawless Execution at 25 and Hack and Slash at 30, not 29 as some plans claim. The Legacy perk Talented moves everything up to 5 levels earlier.

🔒 The full guide finishes this build to 51 points and adds four more trees: raid Combat Swords (18/33/0), raid Daggers Mutilate/Venom (39/12/0), PvP Hemorrhage (20/0/31) and PvP Combat-Premeditation (0/35/16). Each has a point-by-point table and a legality check.

Hit cap essentials

TargetAbilitiesDual-wield white hits
Same level5%about 24%
Raid boss (+3)8%about 27% (one guide says 29%) Conflict

Hit and crit are now one stat each across melee, ranged and spells, and gear hit also helps your poisons land Blizzard. Precision 3/3 covers 3% of the cap, and a Dwarf's Artisan's Precision another 1%. Whether poisons roll on the spell miss table is still unconfirmed Unverified. The full guide explains what that means for Daggers.

PvP: the 10-second stun chain

Use Premeditation (+2 combo points), then Cheap Shot (2 points, +1 from Initiative 3/3) for 5 points from the opener. Pool Energy during the 4-second stun, then Kidney Shot as it ends, for 6 s from level 50. That's 10 seconds of chained stun Client data. Diminishing returns use the Classic categories until Blizzard publishes Forever's Classic baseline.

🔒 The full guide includes the Energy budget for both PvP specs, the defensive cooldown plan, and a matchup for all nine classes using Forever changes: for example, paladins have no interrupt or slow, druid forms are immune to Disarm, and Auto Shot now needs the hunter to stand still for 0.5 s.

Rogue FAQ

What is the best rogue race in WoW Forever?

For raids, Human (+1% crit, always on) and Dwarf (+1% hit from Artisan's Precision) lead the Alliance, and Orc (Blood Fury on a 2 min cooldown) leads the Horde. For PvP, Human, Gnome, Undead and Orc are the top picks. The gap between races is about one percentage point of a stat.

When do rogues get Hack and Slash in WoW Forever?

At level 30 at the earliest. It's a row-5 talent, which needs 20 points in Combat first. With the Legacy perk Talented, you can take it up to 5 levels earlier.

What is the rogue hit cap in WoW Forever?

8% for abilities against a raid boss and 5% against a same-level target, according to guides that read client data. Dual-wield white hits need far more (about 27%) and can't reach the cap.

Does Sap break Stealth in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard changed Sap so it no longer breaks Stealth. You still need to be in Stealth to cast it.
